BIKE SKILLS AND SAFETY Incoming Grade(s): 5-9 Instructors: Mrs. Michelle Nielsen, Tricia Bonavia, & Michelle Salove 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity for budding cycling enthusiasts to hang out with some of your Archer Mountain Bike team athletes and coaches, and learn some riding skills, safety, and bike maintenance! During this camp week, your rider will learn riding safety, greenbelt and trail etiquette, basic bicycle maintenance, as well as develop some riding strength and skills through riding drills, games, and relays. All participants must have their own bike in safe working order, and a helmet. 107. This is a great camp for athletes of all kinds. You will learn how to assess your own skills and enhance them. From running faster to jumping higher, or to pushing harder you will learn how to do this safely to decrease injury risk and maximize performance. Mr. Meissner is a certified performance coach specializing in joint mobility for athletes. He has trained athletes in the MLB, Ninja warrior, sprinters, pole vaulters, and more. He will ensure that you will come away with a better understanding of how to be the best athlete you can be without the aches and pains. 114. Students will also learn the fascinating history of how we name and classify living things today as we read the history of Carl Linnaeus, the father of Taxonomy. 202. Watercolor, like its name suggests wants to move wherever the paper is wet. For beginners, this can be frustrating. In this camp we will seek to "become friends" with watercolor by learning techniques which work with its nature, not against it. A few of the projects we will then jump into are: a beautiful watercolor whale done in "wet on wet", farm animals (drawing instructions will be given), simple landscape or seascape, flowers (pick your own and we will make sure you know which techniques to use), and a simple portrait. (And any other projects we can find time for!). These projects are always a LOT of fun for both campers and the teachers! 209. Owen Brown, a sophomore at The Ambrose School and member of the Eagle High School JV team, will take campers through a variety of drills, games, and scrimmages designed to improve their fundamental lacrosse skills such as passing, catching, shooting, and defensive techniques. Each day, campers will engage in dynamic drills that focus on different aspects of the game, allowing them to sharpen their abilities and gain confidence on the field. *Please be sure to bring a lacrosse stick if you have one, and plenty of water. Each day we will explore areas of the IT world using hands-on experience. We will learn about networking, Chromebook management, device repairs, and more. Campers will also be given an opportunity to use their newly learned skills and compete with other campers. For example, they will be timed on how fast they can put together a computer or be able to run a new device to a classroom. It's a great opportunity to learn the Archer core values, understand the game, learn new skills, and bond with friends. NATURE STUDY AND MICROSCOPY Incoming Grade(s): 4-6 Instructor: Mrs. Abby Baker 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Students will explore nature with the tools and the mind of a Wildlife Biologist! Each scientist will have the chance to collect plant, soil, fungus and insect samples. As a team we will practice recording our observations in our nature journals and students will also learn some basic skills of microscopy. We will view live protists, fungi, plants and small animal samples on the microscope and students will learn techniques for careful nature study while observing the local flora and fauna native to Idaho. Students will also learn the fascinating history of how we name and classify living things today as we read the history of Carl Linnaeus, the father of Taxonomy. 414. ACTING AND SINGING ESSENTIALS Incoming Grade(s): 4-8 Instructor: Mr. Bray Wilkins 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Feeling dramatic? Like to sing but don't know how? This is the camp for you! Mr. Wilkins will teach basics of singing, improv and acting--helping you to become more confident and enjoy using your voice and dramatic skills! 415.
